INITIATIVE TO ATTRACT OVER 100,000 TOURISTS TO GHANA LAUNCHED IN CAPE COAST

An initiative designed to market Ghana as the number one tourism destination on the Africa continent has been launched at the Cape Coast Castle in Cape Coast, the Central Region. The programme dubbed Destination Ghana Global Initiative further seeks to market and advertise Ghana’s vibrant culture and tourism potential in across the global with initial projections to attract more than 100,000 visitors and investors annually to Ghana.
Organisers of the initiative say they were motivated by President Nana Akufo-Addo’s launch of the government’s Destination Ghana Project program on April 3 2022 in London. According to them, the president’s initiative to promote Ghana to the world inspired their initiative to market the country’s tourism potentials internationally hence the launch on February 25 2023 at the Cape Coast Castle.
Speaking on some of the aims of the initiative, Project Coordinator, Verus Nartey said some of the aims of the Destination Ghana Global Programme seeks to expand tourism in Ghana and spur economic growth particularly in the Central Region.
Addressing the launch, the Paramount Chief of Cape Coast Traditional Area, Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II, who chaired the occasion, announced that Cape Coast stood ready to lead the teaching and learning of French in Ghana as well as to welcome French businesses for foreign direct investments. He said a demonstration of the city’s commitment to promoting tourism and business investment in the area, city is ready to host the This is Afroca Festival and Tourism Business Summit both scheduled for December 2023 in Cape Coast. He further assured the world that December in Ghana would be a big deal in Cape Coast starting this year.
On his part, the Director and Cultural Lead for the project, Nana Obokese Ampah, stated that “Destination Ghana Global Project (DGGP) is a private-public collaboration that primarily partners strategic events across the globe to promote Ghanaian Businesses, Tourism and local cultural festivals; while marketing Ghana as Home of Culture, Warmth & Rhythm.
He said the project is an initiative of the President of the Republic, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo dubbed ‘Destination Ghana campaign’, which was launched by Government of Ghana in April 2022 in the UK.
According to the DGGP Secretariat, the project has identified strategic business summits, Tourism Conferences, Concerts & Cultural Festivals across the globe that it is collaborating with to market the agenda of the project from May 25, 2023 to November 30, 2023.
All these activities will be climaxed in Cape Coast this December by two major events dubbed The Tourism Business Summit and This Is Africa Festival.
The Special Guest of Honour for the launch, French Ambassador to Ghana, H.E Jules Armand Aniambossou pledged his Mission’s partnership with DGGP; reiterating the France President Emmanuel Macron’s love and new interests in Africa.
He said:“Mr. Macron has a good heart for the continent”, describing France as “a true friend of the African continent”, and that France “is ready to show that”. Ambassador Jules-Armand Aniambossou later met with key stakeholders and local government officials at the office of the Mayor of Cape Coast on Monday 27th February 2023 to discuss areas of partnership in commerce and tourism development.
