The celebration came at a meaningful point in the Ga traditional calendar, drawing inspiration from Homowo, a festival deeply associated with the Ga people's history, communal identity and triumph over hunger and hardship. Its significance goes beyond festivity; Homowo is a time of remembrance, thanksgiving, unity and the renewal of community bonds.

Where Tradition Meets the Modern Stage

Oobake Experience 2026 presented Ga heritage not as something frozen in the past, but as a living culture capable of speaking to a new generation. The visual language surrounding the celebration, particularly the rich red ceremonial clothing and distinctive traditional accessories, demonstrated how identity can be communicated powerfully without a single word. The gathering also underscored the communal nature of heritage: culture becomes strongest when people come together to practise, protect and celebrate it.

The entertainment programme gave the cultural celebration a contemporary pulse. According to the official event poster, the line-up included Tinny, Gasmilla, EL, D-Black, Cina Soul, Jupiter, Nii Funny, Mix Master Garzy & the Band Masters, King Jerry, Luther, Fatoolia, Herman Suede, Adotey Tetoh and Alorman, among others.

The programme also featured a special exhibition boxing bout between Bukom Banku and Ayittey Powers, marking a 10-year celebration. The inclusion of boxing was especially fitting for an event staged at Bukom Boxing Arena, connecting entertainment with a part of the area's wider cultural and sporting identity.

Aiming to Take Ga Heritage to the World

The larger ambition behind Oobake Experience extends beyond a single night in Accra. The platform aims to highlight and showcase the rich cultural heritage of the Ga people to audiences in Ghana and around the world.

That vision comes at a time when global interest in African culture is expanding across music, fashion, food, film, tourism and the creative arts. The opportunity is not simply to present Ga culture internationally, but to tell its story on its own terms—with its history, people, symbols, creativity and traditions at the centre.

If sustained, documented and professionally developed, Oobake can grow into a cultural property that creates opportunities for artists, designers, performers, food entrepreneurs, storytellers and tourism stakeholders while strengthening awareness of Ga heritage among younger generations.
